Who We Are
The Michigan UU Social Justice Network is a state-wide network of social justice advocates, including representatives of UU churches in nine southeast Michigan cities:  Ann Arbor , Birmingham , Brighton , Detroit , Farmington , Grosse Pointe, Rochester , Southfield and Troy .  The Network coordinates with the Heartland District social justice committee and has received support from the UU Service Committee.  Co-Chairs: Randy Block (248-549-5170) or George Lentz (248-223-9947)

Let Your Voice Be Heard  

Through this Network, you and your church can get informed, exchange ideas and become empowered to work more effectively for justice and community service. Together we can create a strong moral voice for UUs in Michigan. Join the MUUSJN. No membership fees, but donations are gratefully accepted. For more information, contact Randy Block at 248-549-5170. MUUSJN received a grant from the UU Service Committee to further build our justice network.

Network Accomplishments

  • Since December 2002, has met regularly to exchange information & plan activities

  • Surveyed 552 local UU’s on their positions on justice issues issues (survey results)

  • Took public stand against war in Iraq

  • Organized civil liberties workshop in partnership with UUSC & Heartland District

  • Conducted petition drive to help defeat Michigan anti-gay marriage legislation

  • Conducted  Heartland District Workshop on “Networking for Justice”

  • Organized Get Out The Vote (GOTV) Workshop & sent information to Heartland Districh churches on how to get involved with GOTV activities

Our Mission

To  foster the worth and dignity of people by promoting social justice and community service activities through:

-- Enhancing Awareness of human needs and social justice issues within our UU churches and within the greater community;

-- Supporting a Network to more effectively respond to human needs; and

-- Taking Collective Action to fulfill our UU principles within our respective communities.
