Meet our Intern Minister
An Introduction to Tisha Moore, Our New Intern MinisterSeptember 2011 First, I want to thank you for the warm welcome I have already received from so many of you. I deeply appreciate your commitment to help me grow into being the best minister I can possibly be. And I look forward to learning from you (and with you) over the next two years. I grew up on 16 acres of farm land outside Saginaw, MI. Especially for a young girl, I had extensive freedom to romp around outdoors, which probably explains why the natural world and physical activity are still so important to me. I also had the highly unusual experience of attending a one-room school through 8th grade. My personal faith journey has lead me from the Evangelical Lutheranism of my childhood, through a deep and ongoing study of Eastern religious traditions (especially Zen Buddhism), and now into preparation for Unitarian Universalist ministry. I am currently a second-year seminarian at Meadville Lombard Theological School in Chicago, IL. I live and work in Ann Arbor, MI. I graduated from the University of Michigan in 1997 with a BA in Sociology and have worked in the Geriatrics Department of the Health System since 1999. I have also been a hospice volunteer for several years. Having worked in medical fields for most of my professional life, I am especially comfortable in hospitals and nursing homes. I feel that my ministerial calling is to healthcare chaplaincy. Particularly because I am drawn to community-based ministry, I am also deeply drawn to interfaith work. I hope to become a minister who is able to fluently speak many types of religious languages, in order to fully reflect and honor the diversity of ways we refer to the divine and sacred in our lives. I am also drawn to practices of "embodied spirituality," whether it be through volunteer service, meditation and mindfulness practices, contemplative journaling, singing and drumming circles, or nature hikes. I hope to help people find their best ways to access a sense of something holy in their lives-to feel a sense of mystery and gratitude and connection. I look forward to the time that we will share together in the coming years. --Tisha Moore Read about our Minister Rev. Kimi Riegel here. |
