Mabon (Fall Equinox 2007)
Welcome and Introduction to Mabon (This ritual is based on the Autumn Sabbat in "Wicca for Life" by Raymond Buckland, some excerpts are also taken from a previously written ritual by Jeff Kroon from a book called "Mabon"):
Welcome to Mabon... a tradition of many names and practices throughout the world. It is a time of equal day and equal night, giving thanks for the harvest, striving and attaining equal inner and outer balance. It is also a time of community and kinship with the land, all creatures and with all beings, in all worlds. As such, we offer special honor to the dead and our spirit allies at this time. The form of the symbolic owl - sacred to the pre-Celtic crone Goddess in the spirit of Mabon, takes us to the shadows and helps us see what needs to be seen. Mabon — the time of reflection and inner harvest; gathering the bounty and seed. In this way, the wheel turns bringing us back to Samhain, where we begin our cycle.
Purpose — participants reflect on the joys of life and the blessings we enjoy. Do what you feel is right for you.
We will cast the circle so they include restrooms and kitchen.
A pentacle is a religious symbol of life and a symbol of the magical craft of witchcraft. It represents the element, earth and it is a disc with a pentagram inscribed on it.
A pentagram is a five pointed star used magically for blessing, protection and balance. It is a pentacle written or drawn. Using the human body standing with legs spread out and arms out-stretched, it makes a pentacle.
In the salt water purification we will be drawing a pentacle on ourneighbor's forehead with salt water. If you want to do this, imagine the human body in the position described above. Beginning at your heart, draw a line to your right leg, then to your left arm, to your right arm, to your leftleg and then back to your heart. That is a pentagram. Let's try it. Now begin at a high point on someone's forehead (imagine heart), make a line diagonally to the left (right leg), to his/her left arm, right arm, left leg and back to the heart.
Practice chant for the spiral (or circle) dance.

Call the Goddess: Here is the balance of day and night, yet at no point does time stand still. Throughout the year, the mighty wheel turns and turns again. Death comes but so does life, as children are born to grow and develop
Call the God: As surely as the sun rises, so comes death to each and every one of us. Yet he comes as a friend, to take us to his bosom and to join us once again with the Goddess and with those who have gone before. For death is but the doorway to life, and life itself leads to death.
Dance and Chant with shakers As the witches pass each other on the return each person greets each other with a bow.
Grounding
Witch 1: Please take an apple and reflect on the joys of and on the blessings you enjoy. (She/He takes the bowl of apples from the altar, gives each person an apple and takes one herself/himself. She/He cuts her/his apple cross-wise with the athame and opens it showing the pentacle to everyone.) Behold the symbol of life within the fruit!
Witch 2: Within all life lie the seeds of future lives. Letus give thanks to the gods for this bounty. As you finish contemplating you may eat your apple.
