Lughnassad Ritual 2007

Preparation:
Altar:
Wheat, or harvest, themed altar cloth. Goddess and God candles. Quarter candles and representative items. Lighter. Bread, sliced and covered with a cloth. Athame.

Circle: Chairs for those who need them.

Cast the circle

Drummers: Build energy for about five minutes.

Call the quarters: Light each candle in turn.

HP: Lights the God candle. Uncovers the bread, shows it around the circle, and speaks of the Sun God, Lugh. Explains what Lughnassad is about, in terms of the Wheel of the Year and the grain harvest.

HPS: Lights the Goddess Candle. Returns the bread to the altar and speaks of the Earth Goddess, Taillte. Explains Lughnassad in terms of Taillte and the funeral games.

Salt Blessing

About Bread: Starting with the HPS and HP, have each person talk about the kind of bread that they grew up with and any family or cultural significance.

Bread Service: The HPS and HP help each other distribute the bread. Instruct everyone to not eat until after the blessing. (Decide in advance who will give the blessing.)

Blessing: (After which everyone eats their piece of bread.)

About Lughnassad: Starting with anyone in the circle and ending with the HPS and HP, have each person say what Lughnassad means to them.
